Our Service Projects
On (approximately) the second Sunday of each month (sometimes our Service Project Sunday falls on Saturday or Monday or ..., well you get the picture), we gather to work together on a service project in our community.
We are extremely grateful for the assisntance of VITAL (Volunteers in Teams Acting Locally) for helping us to find projects that fit the abilities, schedules, and gifts of the members of Basileia that match the needs of the community. VITAL is part of the Volunteer Center of Greater Orange County.
Some of our service projects include:
- Calfornia Beach Clean-up Day
- Volunteer positions involving registration, the food area, and the parade at the Orange County Cultural Pride Celebration, Aldrich Park, University of Cailfornia, Irvine.
- Sorting, packaging, labeling, etc. of foods for distribution to the community through Second Harvest National Food Bank Network in Orange.
- Walking as "Team Basileia," seventeen strong, in the Orange County AIDS Walk, University of Cailfornia, Irvine.
- Creating and delivering Mother's Day silk flower arrangements for the women at the Pacific Haven Nursing Home in Garden Grove.
- Sharing a meal with the homeless in Laguna Beach.
- Preparing daffodils for delivery for the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days.
- AssemblING and delivering Valentine's Day gifts for pregnant teens at Mary's Shelter, Santa Ana.
- Fundraising for the "Arana Family Fund", to pay for the child's burial.
- Hug-a-thon with the Hugs for Health Foundation delivering over 800 hugs and greetings to residents at the La Veta Health Care Center, Orange.

A Volunteer's Prayer
Pulpit Helps, August 1992
I thank Thee, Lord as a volunteer
For the chance to serve another year.
And to give of myself in some small way,
To those not blessed as I each day.
My thanks for health and mind and soul,
To aid me ever toward my goal.
For eyes to see the good in all,
A hand to extend before a fall.
For legs to go where the need is great,
Learning to love--forgetting to hate.
For ears to hear and heart to care,
When someone's cross is hard to bear.
A smile to show my affection true,
With energy aplenty--the task to do.
And all I ask, dear Lord, if I may,
Is to serve you better day by day.
Amen.
